Badrya (sheep)
Badrya is the family's pet sheep. She has been at the centre of their lives for 10 years now. She has special hairstyles, necklaces and is Hakima's special friend. She will not be sold or forced to leave them.
Abu Awad Al-Najar
Abu Awad is the elder of the Najar family - father to Awad and grandfather to Eman and her siblings. He loves the land and his way of life as a Palestinian Bedouin.
Hakima Najar
Hakima is the grandmother and Awad's mother. She remembers fleeing Palestine in 1948 on a donkey and is still traumatised by displacement. She tenderly cares for her pet sheep, Badrya.
Awad Najar
Awad is a father, son and husband who is struggling to survive as his family face displacemen, balancing life lived between tradition and modernity. He adores his family and, despite working long hours, always has time to make them laugh.
Eman Najar
Eman is Awad's eldest daughter. She was ten when filming started and we see her grow up into a politically aware teenager. She is always kind, thoughtful and respectful but feels the pain of the family's situation deeply.
Asmahan Bkerat Director
Asmahan is the Director of Concrete Land. A Palestinian/Jordanian who became a filmmaker to tell this story. She met the Najars more than eight years ago and developed this story with them to document their disappearing way of life.
Ban Maraqa Writer/Producer/Editor
Ban is the writer, editor and producer of Concrete Land. A school friend of Asmahan her journey to making this remarkable debut film has been full of challenges. Her resilience, like the Najars' shines through.
