Synopsis
Mariana bears the marks of a hard life and countless cigarettes. Ten years ago, she fled an abusive husband with her eight-year-old son Alex, who has Down syndrome and is on the autism spectrum.
With no institutional support, she devoted herself entirely to him, sinking into debt to take him to dance competitions across the country.
But in their small town, life becomes suffocating for Alex, now a creative and energetic teenager. After his graduation, their world shrinks further; financial hardship prevents them from traveling, and Alex begins to struggle - running away and suffering emotional breakdowns.
Hoping for a fresh start, Mariana moves them to the seaside. For a while, things brighten: Alex films their days at the beach, speaks with Irina on the phone and dreams of marriage. But crises soon return, money runs out, and they have to move back.
Lonely and depressed, Alex becomes obsessed with Ornella, a TikTok influencer, fueling delusions and leading to police intervention..
After every attempt to control Alex fails, Mariana starts questioning her role as a mother.
Yet from their darkest moment, mother and son slowly reconnect. They travel, dance again, and find support in a new community. At last, they seem ready to embrace change - and leave their painful past behind.

Alex and Mariana are now in a much better place. They moved to Bucharest, where they were welcomed by a larger community and are now part of the Down Plus Bucharest Association.
But life in Bucharest is expensive and they still struggle financially. Mariana has to often choose between providing for basic needs and trying to give Alex a better, more social life.
