Alisa Kovalenko is an award-winning Ukrainian documentary filmmaker. Her films "Alisa in Warland" (IDFA 2015), "Home Games" (Sheffield Doc/Fest 2018), "We Will Not Fade Away" (Berlinale 2023), and "My Dear Theo" (CPH:DOX 2025) have screened at major festivals worldwide, winning numerous awards. Alisa is also a former captive and survivor of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). Since 2019, Alisa has served as a board member of SEMA Ukraine, and since 2025, a member of SEMA, the Global Network of CRSV survivors.
TRACES has received several industry awards while still in production.
In March 2025, in recognition of its powerful storytelling and impact, TRACES was selected as one of only twelve documentaries featured at the Impact Days of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), where it received one of the festival’s two prestigious awards, the Sublimages Award.
At the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in June 2025, TRACES received multiple awards, including recognition from Kino42 cinema following a test screening, an award for the directors from Suspilne Broadcasting of Ukraine, and an editing consultancy award from Rough Cut Service.
In February 2026, it had its world premiere at the Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival, where it went on to win the Panorama Audience Award in the Panorama Documentary category, an award determined entirely by festival audiences. More than 26,500 viewers cast ballots in the Panorama section that year.
TRACES continued to receive significant international recognition at the Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague, where it was awarded the Grand Jury Documentary Award.
