Mahmud joined AFP in 2003 and is the Gaza office's most famous member, awarded with numerous international prizes. In 2024, he won the Visa d'Or and the Bayeux First Prize for war correspondents. He has covered many events outside Gaza, from the Arab revolutions to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Evacuated from Gaza in February 2024 with his wife and their four children, he now covers the news for afp from the Doha office in Qatar.
Mai joined AFP in Gaza in 2008 as a text journalist. During the war, she worked on fact-checking figures from the Hamas health ministry, visiting morgues and meeting bombing victims' families. Her son Jad, 11, was able to leave Gaza, but Mai was denied authorisation to accompany him. She was finally able to leave 3 months later, after losing 50 family members and close friends.
At 55, he is the office's veteran. internationally recognised, World Press Award winner in 2010, seriously wounded in 2018, Mohammed has covered the wars in Gaza, the Arab revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya, and the war in Sudan as a photojournalist... But he had never experienced anything like the Israeli response to the attacks of October 7, 2023.
Adel is AFP's longest serving member in Gaza, which he joined in 1994 at the age of 19. In the last few years, he has taken on the position of the bureau's chief correspondent. Adel has organised and provided coverage in extreme conditions, while guiding his colleagues and their families through constant chaos, death and displacement. Adel is now based in Cyprus’ Afp office from where he continues to contribute to the coverage of Gaza.
Hélène Lam Trong is the film director. Inside Gaza is a collective work based upon the images shot in Gaza by members of the AFP Gaza bureau. Hélène did long interviews with the film's protagonists and spent months putting together their professional and personal videos as well as photographs of the AFP bureau staff in Gaza. Hélène is a laureate of the prestigious Albert Londres Prize for her previous film "The ghost children of ISIS" (2023).
