A deserted salt factory casts its shadow of an unfulfilled promise as we get an insight into the salt workers' historical plights.

Nicholas Kagongo is a human rights defender and environmental rights activist in the Rwenzori subregion. He is a founding member and chairperson of the Eco-Tourism Information Center and the Katwe Salt Lake Museum. From 2013 to 2019, he served as a field officer in the Kasese subregion for the National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE), focusing on food sovereignty, climate change, and biodiversity conservation.

Nicholas has been serving as a tourist guide with the Katwe Eco-Tourism Information Center since 2010. He specializes in guiding and educating students on environmental conservation, climate change, and the history of the Salt Lake in Katwe.

The museum was forced to close down in 2012 because the building's owner repurposed the premises. Since then, Nicholas has been unable to reopen the museum due to the lack of funding.

The funds raised through this campaign will support the initial phase of reopening the museum. In the long term, this initiative will help preserve and maintain the cultural and historical heritage of Katwe.
