ShareDoc Showcases Powerful Stories at MEDIMED Doc Market 2025

At this year’s MEDIMED Doc Market, held in Sitges from October 9–12 and continuing online, ShareDoc took the stage to present its initiative to a select group of international filmmakers from seven countries — the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, Norway, Spain, and Sweden.

These directors had earlier pitched their projects, each built around strong, human-driven stories with the potential to captivate global audiences.

Now in its 26th edition, MEDIMED once again proved to be a vital meeting point for the documentary community. The co-production and co-financing market featured 70 selected projects, offering a snapshot of the most exciting nonfiction work currently in development across Europe and beyond.

Among the projects connected to ShareDoc, two titles stood out for their emotional depth and political relevance.

Hussein Eddeb’s moving documentary The Birth of Derna unearths stories of resilience and transformation in the wake of the devastating floods that struck the Libyan city of Derna. The film is produced by Ola Hunnes of Integral Film in Norway.

In Promised Land, Syrian filmmaker Shaza Maddad embarks on a deeply personal journey back to her homeland after eleven years in exile and the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Searching for her family, her past, and her voice, Maddad captures the fragile rebirth of a nation. The project is produced by Stanislas Gazelle of Babel Doc in Paris.

ShareDoc is expected to support several of the participating films in the coming months, including:

Mathare Fathers (WT) — Nordic Eye Productions (Sweden)

My European Family — Day for Night (France)

Paradise Prisoners — Czech TV (Czech Republic)

Promised Land — Babel Doc (France)

Seeds From Kivu — Filmakers Monkeys (Spain)

Speak Image Speak — Seera Films (Germany)

Tehran: Good/Bad or Worse — Caractères Productions (Iran/France)

The Birth of Derna — Integral Film (Norway)

The Servant’s Room — Nanouk Films (Spain)

With its focus on socially engaged storytelling and cross-border collaboration, ShareDoc continues to champion filmmakers whose work illuminates complex realities and amplifies authentic voices on the global stage.
