My name is Glams. I am a transgender woman, a migrant, and a refugee living in Tunisia. Since childhood, I have felt different — trapped in a body society refused to accept. My uncle discovered who I truly was, and from that moment, my life collapsed. I was beaten, tortured, and rejected by my own family. Now I'm still trapped in Tunisia without the opportunity to work. With the fundig I could deal with my daily survival.
My interest as a human being is in listening to marginalized per- spectives, human rights, and the intersections of identity, migra- tion, and social change. Besides filmmaking I’m also teaching German as a foreign language to newly arrived refugees. This role shaped my understanding of both the structural and emotion- al challenges of refugees—and gave me a particular sensitivity to the narratives of vulnerable communities.
Help Us support Yasmine, Chanel, and Glams—on their passage in search of freedom.
Transversale is a hybrid documentary following three transgender women—Yasmine, Chanel, and Glams—on their passage
across borders: from country to country,
between past and future, and through survival and celebration.
The film finds its protagonists in forced
exile in Tunisia after a harrowing journey
across the Sahara Desert. Denied the right
to simply exist in their homeland of Cameroon, they flee life-threatening persecution
in search of freedom. Their individual paths
unfold as they fight to reclaim their bodies, assert their identities, and build lives
that accept them as they are. It is a journey
marked by courage and resilience—a powerful expression of the will to be, against all
odds.
