Nonostante tutte le difficoltà, A TU LADO è diventato realtà, per raccontare Cuba come è, fuori dagli stereotipi e dai pregiudizi. Nuri Duarte ha scritto il film insieme al regista Cristiano Regina e al giornalista Ruggero Tantulli. Lorenzo Casadio Vannucci ha diretto la fotografia. Borja Barrera Allué ha registrato il suono. Cristina Renzetti ha composto la colonna sonora, includendo brani della cantautrice cubana Esney Morales. Corrado Iuvara ha montato le immagini del film, Marisol Cao Milán ha montato il suono. Chiara Galloni, Ivan Olgiati, Marc Guanyabens, Rosa Maria Rodriguez Pupo e Armando Capó hanno prodotto il film, con l'organizzazione generale di Lucia Allegra. Tutti gli "attori" del documentario, nel ruolo di sé stessi, sono i giovani boxeadores della Palestra, i loro maestri, i logo genitori e amici. Tutte le maestranze che hanno lavorato al film sono professionisti cubani o hanno studiato alla prestigiosa Scuola di cinema cubana EICTV.
Il film aveva un solo scopo: parlare di Cuba, prima che tornasse tristemente alla cronaca per l'intensificarsi dell'embargo imposto dagli Stati Uniti e le terribili condizioni socio-economiche in cui versa l'Isola. Abbiamo presentato il documentario in anteprima allo storico Festival CineLat di Trieste nel novembre 2025. Oggi il film arriva nelle sale italiane, distribuito da Articolture e la collaborazione dell'Associazione Voice Off, con il patrocinio di Associazione Nazionale di Amicizia Italia-Cuba e ARCI nazionale, e coinvolgendo le palestre popolari italiane. Ma lo scopo è sempre lo stesso: parlare di Cuba, continuare a parlare di Cuba, senza pregiudizi e senza stereotipi. Ogni donazione verrà devoluta direttamente al Gimnasio de Boxeo Centro Habana e alla comunità che ruota attorno al suo ring.

Despite all the difficulties, *A TU LADO* has become a reality, offering a true portrayal of Cuba, free from stereotypes and prejudices. Nuri Duarte co-wrote the film with director Cristiano Regina and journalist Ruggero Tantulli. Lorenzo Casadio Vannucci served as director of photography. Borja Barrera Allué handled sound recording. Cristina Renzetti composed the soundtrack, including songs by Cuban singer-songwriter Esney Morales. Corrado Iuvara edited the film’s footage, and Marisol Cao Milán edited the sound. Chiara Galloni, Ivan Olgiati, Marc Guanyabens, Rosa Maria Rodriguez Pupo, and Armando Capó produced the film, with general coordination by Lucia Allegra. All the “actors” in the documentary, playing themselves, are the young boxeadores of the Palestra, their coaches, their parents, and their friends. All the crew members who worked on the film are Cuban professionals or studied at the prestigious Cuban film school EICTV.

The film had a single purpose: to tell the story of Cuba, before it sadly returned to the headlines due to the intensification of the U.S. embargo and the terrible socio-economic conditions plaguing the island. We premiered the documentary at the historic CineLat Festival in Trieste in November 2025. Today, the film is hitting Italian theaters, distributed by Articolture in collaboration with the Voice Off Association, under the patronage of the National Association of Italian-Cuban Friendship and ARCI Nazionale, and involving Italian community gyms. But the goal remains the same: to talk about Cuba, to keep talking about Cuba, without prejudice and without stereotypes. Every donation will be donated directly to the Gimnasio de Boxeo Centro Habana and the community that revolves around its ring.

Da quando abbiamo deciso di realizzare questo film, anche se la produzione, il regista e l'attore protagonista sono italiani, l'abbiamo sempre pensato per Cuba e a Cuba. Il primo obiettivo della coproduzione tra la società italiana Articolture e la spagnola Fractal è stato quello di trovare un produttore cubano come partner attivo in questo viaggio: la GatoRosaFilms si è unita a noi con entusiasmo. Abbiamo trascorso del tempo insieme sull'isola, collaborato e assunto professionisti cubani, toccando con mano l'anacronismo della Storia e la continua resistenza della sua gente. Il Gimnasio, come Cuba, resiste e porta avanti il sogno di un mondo diverso, accogliendo gratuitamente bambini e ragazzi di ogni genere, provenienza ed età, per convincerli delle loro capacità e possibilità, non solo sportive. L'obiettivo del documentario è duplice: attraverso il Gimnasio, raccontiamo la storia della Cuba di oggi e, allo stesso tempo, cerchiamo di sostenere e dare voce a un'iniziativa lanciata da Samuel Fabbri e portata avanti dall'intera comunità. Una comunità che si sta progressivamente svuotando, come l'isola, che dal 2022 ha visto l'esodo di quasi un milione di cubani, uno dei più grandi nella storia cubana, afflitta dall'attuale situazione socio-economica.

La palestra non ha risorse, attrezzature o denaro, se non la forza di volontà. Qualsiasi sostegno alla palestra è un sostegno all'intera comunità che ruota attorno ad essa e, soprattutto, è un grande incoraggiamento per chi ne fa parte a perseguire i propri sogni.

Ever since we decided to make this film—even though the production company, the director, and the main actor are Italian—we have always envisioned it for Cuba and set in Cuba. The primary goal of the co-production between the Italian company Articolture and the Spanish company Fractal was to find a Cuban producer to be an active partner on this journey: GatoRosaFilms joined us with enthusiasm. We spent time together on the island, we hired and collaborated with Cuban professionals, witnessing firsthand the anachronism of history and the enduring resilience of its people. The Gimnasio, like Cuba, persists and carries forward the dream of a different world, welcoming children and young people of all genders, backgrounds, and ages free of charge, to convince them of their abilities and potential—not just in sports. The documentary has a dual purpose: through the Gimnasio, we tell the story of today’s Cuba and, at the same time, we seek to support and give voice to an initiative launched by Samuel Fabbri and carried forward by the entire community. A community that is gradually emptying out, much like the island itself, which since 2022 has seen the exodus of nearly one million Cubans—one of the largest in Cuban history—plagued by the current socio-economic situation.

The gym has no resources, equipment, or money, only sheer willpower. Any support for the gym is support for the entire community that revolves around it and, above all, is a great encouragement for those who are part of it to pursue their dreams.
