Because of her commitment to human rights, the lawyer Eren Keskin is repeatedly targeted by the Turkish authorities. More than 120 court cases have been brought against the human rights defender and chairwoman of the Human Rights Association of Turkey for her work on behalf of the now-banned pro-Kurdish newspaper Özgür Gündem. In some of these proceedings, she has already been sentenced to a total of 26 years and nine months in prison anyway to heavy fines. In addition, Eren Keskin was banned from leaving the country. In the main trial against "Özgür Gündem", Eren Keskin was sentenced to six years and three months imprisonment on February 15, 2021 on the absurd charge of "membership in a terrorist organization". Once these prison sentences are upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeals, Eren Keskin will be imprisoned and spend decades in detention.

Eren Keskin has been working as a lawyer since 1984 and is mainly involved in political cases. She is a committed advocate for victims of sexualized violence and for the rights of persecuted members of minorities, especially Kurds, Armenians, homosexuals, transgender people and refugees.
In 1997, together with other lawyers, she founded a project to provide legal assistance to women who have been raped or subjected to other forms of sexual torture in detention, the Legal Aid Office against Sexual Abuse and Rape in Detention.
